Recovery Sunday Events: Giving Hope to Churches
Intervention
People who dwell in deep darkness have seen a great Light.
Isa. 9:2
- An intervention is a spiritual negotiation.
- Every time you speak to someone about their drinking problem, that is an intervention.
- It’s usually ineffective because one-on-one you lose with an alcoholic.
- They are adept at denying, debating, dividing, and diverting.
- An intervention is a loving effort to tell the addict that they are loved, we have concerns, and we have a reasonable plan.
- We draw on the powerful inherent strength of family and friends to motivate change.
- The intervention is not a high-tension confrontation. We lead with love.
- 85% of the time, the loved one will enter treatment.
Counseling
The counseling ministry of Fully Alive focuses on helping a client to ask the right questions about God and the Church, and to lean into their faith. The most common problems we address are:
- “I may have a problem with drinking.”
This is a typical call. I meet with the client to assess the situation and guide their recovery.
- “I have a son/daughter who’s engaging in very risky behavior.”
Again, I meet the young person over a period of months and usually focus on living a faithful and virtuous life.
- “How do I handle my pain?”
This is the main question underlying most of our challenges in life. We help clients find answers that lead to a meaningful life.
